Overview
CartStore is a sophisticated ecommerce platform that was built for actual real ecommerce websites. It has been in development since March of 2000. It was forked from the osCommerce project in 2006 where extensive development and modernization occurred.
CartStore is a unique shopping cart and has major advantages over other shopping cart applications some of them being it is incredibly stable, has open source code, a huge feature set derived from the actual requirements of thousands of real websites. With CartStore you can cut development costs substantially. It has a powerful flexible multi-template system along with a pool of more than 5,000 available code add-ons. Its current feature set already has the most popular add-ons in it, even the free version is considerably robust.
CartStore requires an Apache based Web Server, php5 and MySql. It has an easy to use web based installer. Just upload the files to your website and follow the installation instructions.

What is osCommerce?
osCommerce is a shopping cart application written in PHP. It was initially developed in March 2000. Today it has the largest pool of community contributions / add-ons available, currently at 5,000+! These contributions are added by other ecommerce sites that paid to have these modifications done as well as hobbyist or store owners who know how to code in PHP and commercial companies like QuickBooks for example or other web development companies. OsCommerce out of the box has very basic features; this functionality is extended by these available add-ons. There are several shopping cart vendors like CRE loaded and Zen Cart who built upon oscommerce's framework and extended its basic functionality to create a sort of super cart just like we did to our shopping cart software in which we call CartStore which out of all extended osCommerce variant carts is the only one which its index-able front end has been converted to modern SEO friendly XHTML. XHTML provides for better ranking results in Google and other search engines. We have all the popular add-ons in our code already.

You wouldn't believe it but most of the large shopping cart companies shopping cart software is still written in old table based code. If you pay someone to develop a site on plain Jane osCommerce it will cost a lot because it has no template system. Our platform has been developed specifically for building ecommerce websites; we have 4 years of coding into it! Someone starting off with a plain Jane version of osCommerce is going to have to make many lengthy code additions and changes to pull off some of the tricks and features in some of today's largest and most advanced online stores.
